As part of my work on Oddsparks, I created tiling materials for the game’s environment. For this Cave biome, the trickiest challenge was getting the destructible materials just right. One needed to look like it could be cleanly sliced with cutting damage, another had to feel like a softer rock that wouldn’t put up much of a fight, and the last had to nail that unbreakable, glassy obsidian look. Besides that, I created variations of Sarah Ulzhöfer’s igneous rock ground—adding touches like lichen growth or shimmering ore veins paired with sandy slopes.

Oddsparks is a mix of automation and real-time strategy developed by Massive Miniteam and published by Handy Games under THQ Nordic. The game was in Early Access for around a year and was fully released on PlayStation 5, GeForce Now, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, and Amazon Luna on May 27, 2025.
